UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till predictions
UFC 228 took a blow earlier today at they weigh-ins when the Nicco Montano vs. Valentina Shevchenko fight was removed and Shevchenko is ‘very upset.’
But the show will go on with some good fights on the card and a big welterweight title defence.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the card.
FIGHT PASS PRELIMS
GEOFF NEAL (9-2-0) VS. FRANK CAMACHO (21-6-0)
Andrews: Camacho is a good test for Neal, who is coming off DWCS. Neal needs to land big and end this early, otherwise Camacho is going to make him pay.
Andrews Prediction: Geoff Neal via TKO
ROBERTO SANCHEZ (8-1-0) VS. JARRED BROOKS (13-2-0)
Andrews: Can Sanchez choke out Brooks? I think he can, he will do enough striking to get the fight to the ground and get the tap.
Andrews Prediction: Roberto Sanchez via submission
#12 IRENE ALDANA (8-4-0) VS. #13 LUCIE PUDILOVA (8-2-0)
Andrews: Aldana has struggled in the UFC, adjusting to the stronger and more competitive bantamweights there. Her reluctance to let her hands go has cost her at least one octagon fight, but she did win her last bout. If she fights aggressively, she should win but any less and Pudiliova will take it. I reluctantly take Aldana.
Andrews Prediction: Irene Aladana via SD
JIM MILLER (28-11-0, 1NC) VS. ALEX WHITE (12-3-0)
Andrews: Miller has been fighting in the UFC since 2008! I like Miller and his toughness, but the new generation is in effect and he has lost four straight. White is part of that new generation who will squeak by Miller with a narrow win.
Andrews Prediction: Alex White via UD
DIEGO SANCHEZ (29-11-0) VS. CRAIG WHITE (14-8-0)
Andrews: Sanchez is not going to kiss White on the beak in the fight, he is going to try and kill him. White only has two fights in the octagon is trying to get in Diego’s head, but that could have motivated much more to break his two fight losing skid.
Andrews Prediction: Diego Sanchez via TKO
TSN 2 PRELIMS (8PMET/5PM PT)
CHARLES BYRD (9-4-0) VS. DARREN STEWART (8-3-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Byrd will have the game plan to get the finish after some early trouble.
Andrews Prediction: Charles Byrd via submission
#5 JIMMIE RIVERA (21-2-0) VS. #7 JOHN DODSON (20-9-0)
Andrews: Rivera has the tools to get the decision and despite getting cracked for the first time in his last fight, I don’t think Dodson can hurt him. Dodson still has the speed, but Rivera should nullify it with some good footwork and strikes.
Andrews Prediction: Jimmie Rivera via UD
#8 ALJAMAIN STERLING (14-3-0) VS. #10 CODY STAMANN (17-1-0)
Andrews: Stamann is on quite a run but has never faced the calibre opponent of Stamman, maybe Caraway was the closest (and he barely won). Sterling if he comes in aggressive should get the narrow decision.
Andrews Prediction: Aljamain Sterling via UD
#6 CARLA ESPARZA (14-5-0) VS. #9 TATIANA SUAREZ (7-0-0)
Andrews: Esparza’s striking is not as good as Tatiana and she is giving up reach and height. Esparza’s takedowns will be key but even there Suarez has good wrestling.
Andrews Prediction: Tatiana Suarez via UD
MAIN CARD (10PM ET/7PM PT)
ABDUL RAZAK ALHASSAN (9-1-0) VS. NIKO PRICE (12-1-0, 1NC)
Andrews: Alhassan should not be slept on, just ask Homasi. Price should win if he goes to work.
Andrews Prediction: Niko Price via UD
#2 JESSICA ANDRADE (18-6-0) VS. #4 KAROLINA KOWALKIEWICZ (12-2-0)
Andrews: I don’t think the striking fo KK can hurt Andrade, which should allowed to get the takedown and grind out the win.
Andrews Prediction: Jessica Andrade via UD
#15 ZABIT MAGOMEDSHARIPOV (15-1-0) VS. BRANDON DAVIS (9-4-0)
Andrews: How can Zabit stay at 145? He is entertaining but here his tools should get him the win.
Andrews Prediction: Zabit Magomedsharipov via UD
TYRON WOODLEY (18-3-1) VS. #2 DARREN TILL (17-0-1)
Andrews: Woodley will be extra careful as he was with Wonderboy and hope a mistake by Till will get him the finish he needs to get the fans off his back. Till has be aggressive to land the strikes he needs to win. This stacks the deck to Woodley.
Andrews Prediction: Tyron Woodley via UD
