UFC 230: Valentina Shevchenko to fight Sijara Eubanks for vacant flyweight title

ESPN reported today that UFC flyweight Valentina Shevchenko (15-3-0) will fight TUF 26 finalist Sijara Eubanks (3-2-0) in the main event of New York City’s UFC 230.

Eubanks confirmed the bout in a tweet on her Twitter account.

Shevchenko, 30, was initially scheduled to face former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231 in Toronto. She was also supposed to face Nicco Montano for the flyweight belt back at UFC 228, but Montano was pulled after failing to make weight. After losing a close split-decision to bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in September 2017, “Bullet” dropped down to 125 pounds and decisioned Priscilla Cachoeira at UFC Fight Night 125 in February.

Eubanks, 33, failed to make weight for the December 2017 TUF 26 Finals bout with Montano and was replaced by Roxanne Modafferi, who lost to Montano. She then decisioned Lauren Murphy at UFC Fight Night 131 in June.

UFC 230 is set for November 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Other scheduled matches include:

Valentina Shevchenko (15-3-0) vs. Sijara Eubanks (3-2-0)

Yoel Romero (13-3-0) vs. Paulo Costa (12-0-0)

Dustin Poirier (24-5-0, 1NC) vs. Nate Diaz (19-11-0)
