UFC 232: Jones vs Gustafsson 2 predictions

Can "The Mauler" upset "Bones?"

The UFC is in Inglewood for UFC 232 and we have a light heavyweight main event  and featherweight co-main that could be one of the great fights of the year.

Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.

UFC FIGHT PASS PRELIMS (6:15PM ET/3:15PM PT)

BRIAN KELLEHER (19-9-0) VS. MONTEL JACKSON (6-1-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: I like Brian Kelleher’s experience to see him through some early trouble.

Andrews Prediction: Brian Kelleher via UD

CURTIS MILLENDER (16-3-0) VS. SIYAR BAHADURZADA (24-6-1)

UFC 232

Andrews: The aggressiveness of Siyar is what should get a finish to this fight. Millender can go the distance, but he will need to play keep away and I don’t think he can.

Andrews Prediction: Siyar Bahadurzada via TKO

URIAH HALL (13-9-0) VS. BEVON LEWIS (6-0-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: Hall has lost four of his last five fights and needs a win badly. He has been “gifted” an undefeated fighter from DWCS and LWA. If Hall loses this one, he should be cut.

Andrews Prediction: Uriah Hall via TKO

NATHANIEL WOOD (14-3-0) VS. ANDRE EWELL (14-4-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: Ewell is a big bantamweight who cuts some weight at 5-11. He has a narrow split-decision win over Barao and if he can keep the fight standing, can do it again with Wood, but can he? Not sure, but I’ll go with his experience.

Andrews Prediction: Andre Ewell via UD

TSN 2 PRELIMS (8PM ET/5PM PT)

B.J. PENN (16-12-2) VS. RYAN HALL (6-1-0)

UFC 232

Andrews:  Penn hasn’t won a fight since 2010, a stretch of six fights (0-5-1). Ryan Hall isn’t a killer like most of the guys B.J. fought, but he should still get the win as long as he hasn’t underestimated the Hall of Famer.

Andrews Prediction:

DOUGLAS SILVA DE ANDRADE (25-2-0, 1NC) VS. PETR YAN (10-1-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: De Andrade has a chance to the stop the momentum of Yan, but this should be a tough fight. De Andrade should get the win, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Yan scored an upset TKO.

Andrews Prediction: Douglas Silva de Andrade via UD

CAT ZINGANO (10-3-0) VS. MEGAN ANDERSON (8-3-0)

Andrews: Zingano has pulled of some big wins in the past (Amanda Nunes and Miesha Tate), but she is the smaller fighter here facing the current generation. Despite her experience, I think it will be too much for her.

Andrews Prediction: Megan Anderson via UD

ANDREI ARLOVSKI (27-17-0, 1NC) VS. WALT HARRIS (11-7-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: The Pitbull’s chin at 39 continues to hold up, even through his past two losses which were by decision. Harris is only four years younger but does not nearly have the experience of Andrei. Unless Harris can connect on the button, I have to go with the experience of Arlovski.

Andrews Prediction: Andrei Arlovski via UD

MAIN CARD (10PM ET/7PM PT)

CHAD MENDES (18-4-0) VS. ALEXANDER VOLKANOVSKI (18-1-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: Volkanovski hasn’t fought a guy of Mendes’ calibre and has his work cut out for him. Mendes is 33 now, but his experience of taking on the best should help him though here.

Andrews Prediction: Chad Mendes via UD

COREY ANDERSON (11-4-0) VS. ILIR LATIFI (14-5-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: I expect Latifi to bully the bigger Anderson to a submission tap.

Andrews Prediction: Ilir Latifi via submission

CARLOS CONDIT (30-12-0) VS. MICHAEL CHIESA (14-4-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: Condit’s return to MMA hasn’t gone as planned with two losses, and Chiesa should add to it Saturday night.

Andrews Prediction:

CRIS CYBORG (20-1-0, 1NC) VS. AMANDA NUNES (16-4-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: Nunes has the best chance to beat Cyborg, and although 145 is her natural weight, Cyborg is still the bigger fighter. It will be a closer fight, but Cyborg still wins.

Andrews Prediction: Cris Cyborg via UD

MAIN EVENT

JON JONES (22-1-0) VS. ALEXANDER GUSTAFSSON (18-4-0)

UFC 232

Andrews: Gustafsson will never have a better chance to defeat Jones and on paper, he has a ring rust advantage. But Jones, despite the controversy, is still the best and will find a way to beat The Mauler.

Andrews Prediction: Jon Jones via UD
