UFC on ESPN+ 1: Cejudo vs. Dillashaw predictions
The UFC is in Brooklyn tonight as T.J. Dillashaw looks to become the company’s fourth dual champion with a win over bantamweight champ Henry Cejudo.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
MAIN CARD (10PM ET/7PM PT)
#12 GLOVER TEIXEIRA (27-7-0) VS. KARL ROBERSON (7-1-0)
Andrews: Texeira looked all of his 39 years in last fight. I like Roberson, but he is facing a motivated Glover, probably his most difficult opponent yet. I can see Roberson outworking a tired Glover, but I think Glover has enough left in the tank to take the decision.
Andrews Prediction: Glover Texeira via UD
PAIGE VANZANT (7-4-0) VS. RACHEL OSTOVICH (4-4-0)
Andrews: Ostovich’s story outside of the octagon has been an inspiring one, but it’s worth noting here that she’s lost two of her last three fights. Can she control VanZant on the ground with her wrestling? I think she can, but she’s vulnerable to getting outstruck on the feet from the longer and taller Paige. Have to go with the Switchkick Kid.
Andrews Prediction: Paige VanZant via UD
#2 JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ (26-5-0) VS. #8 DUSTIN ORTIZ (19-7-0)
Andrews: With Demetrious Johnson finally out of the way, the bantamweight crown is within reach for Benavidez. But at 34, the clock is ticking. I think JoeJitsu gets the tap.
Andrews Prediction: Joseph Benavidez via submission
GREGOR GILLESPIE (12-0-0) VS. YANCY MEDERIOS (15-5-0)
Andrews: I like Yancy a lot but despite his experience of facing guys like Cerrone and Jim Miller, I feel Gillespie has this one.
Andrews Prediction: Gregor Gillespie via TKO
GREG HARDY (3-0-0) VS. ALLEN CROWDER (9-3-0)
Andrews: Is anybody taking Crowder? I’m not. Hardy all the way.
Andrews Prediction: Greg Hardy via TKO
HENRY CEJUDO (13-2-0) VS. T.J. DILLASHAW (16-3-0)
Andrews: I still think DJ won Cejudo’s last fight, but The Messenger has now the confidence and the swagger to upset TJ. But I still think TJ has enough wrestling to neutralize Cejudo’s ground attack and has much better striking to take it on points.
Andrews Prediction: T.J. Dillashaw via UD
