The UFC is in Fortaleza, Brazil tonight for UFC on ESPN+ 2 and all eyes are on a pair of Brazilian matchups on the main card.
In the co-main event, former featherweight champion Jose Aldo tries to return to form against the young and hungry #5 Renato Carniero while in the bantamweight division, #3 Raphael Assuncao and #4 Marlon Moraes battle in a rematch to move up in the title shot conversation.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
MAIN CARD (8PM ET/5PM PT)
LIVINHA SOUZA (12-1-0) VS. SARAH FROTA (8-0-0)
Andrews: Frota, a DWTNCS participant, missed her debut weight by 8 pounds. Souza looked ready to punish her for missing weight. She will drag Frota to the ground and get the tap if she doesn’t knock her out on the feet first.
Andrews Prediction: Livnha Souza via submission
JOHNNY WALKER (13-3-0) VS. JUSTIN LEDET (9-1-0)
Andrews: Walker looked impressive taking out Rountree in his last fight. At 6-6, he has a two-inch height and reach advantage if he can keep the fight standing. Ledet will try to get the fight to the ground, but he will likely get finished before he can.
Andrews Prediction: Johnny Walker via TKO
CHARLES OLIVIERIA (24-8-0, 1NC) VS. DAVID TEYMUR (8-1-0)
Andrews: Teymur is a good fighter, but is facing an Oliveira who beasted Jim Miller in his last fighting is looking for more. After some resistance, I expect Oliveira to eventually get the fight to the ground and get the tap.
Andrews Prediction: Charles Oliveira via submission
#8 DEMIAN MAIA (25-9-0) VS. LYMAN GOOD (20-4-0, 1NC)
Andrews: The book is wide open on Maia. Wrestling is the way to go, but Good is more of a striker and that makes the fight interesting. Maia has lost his last three bouts but can he get Good to the ground? I don’t think he can as long as Good exercises basic common sense in the fight – which I think he will.
Andrews Prediction: Lyman Good via UD
#2 JOSE ALDO (27-5-0) VS. #5 RENATO CARNIERO (12-1-1)
Andrews: Aldo is on the downside of his career and though he has lost only to the elite of the division, I think Carniero will overcome Aldo’s legendary striking and underrated BJJ to make the statement upset win.
Andrews Prediction: Renato Carniero via TKO
#3 RAPHAEL ASSUNCAO (27-5-0) VS. #4 MARLON MORAES (21-5-1)
Andrews: Assuncao took the first fight via split-decision. It’s a toss-up, but I’m going with Moraes to learn from the first fight and get the decision.
Andrews Prediction: Marlon Moraes via UD
