Shinya Aoki

Aoki to defend against Lee, Northcutt debuts against Alexandre at ONE: Enter the Dragon

Lee will have an entire country in his corner

Fresh off winning the lightweight belt, Shinya Aoki (43-8-0, 1NC) of Japan will defend the crown against Christian Lee (11-3-0) of Singapore at May’s ONE: Enter the Dragon.

Aoki, 35, won the belt at ONE: A New Era on March 31, after submitting Eduard Folayang to become the champion for the second time.

Aoki will face a rejuvenated and motivated Lee, who is the younger brother of women’s atomweight champion Angela Lee. Just 20 years old, Lee has rebounded from a two fight losing skid to a two fight win streak. He finished Edward Kelly in his last contest at ONE: Eternal Glory in January. “The Warrior” is moving up in weight for this contest as he normally competes at featherweight.

ONE: Enter The Dragon will also feature the debut of 23 year old  “Super” Sage Northcutt (11-2-0), a former UFC prospect who went 6-2-0 in the octagon before signing with ONE Championship in late 2018.

He will face Brazilian Cosmo Alexandre (7-1-0), 36, who is also making his first ONE appearance. Alexandre is a former Bellator and Legacy Fighting Championships competitor who has was won seven straight bouts after losing his debut fight. However, he has not fought in a cage since 2016.

The “Good Boy” is a three time world Muay Thai champion and a four time world kickboxing champion. It seems his kickboxing style will be ideal for Northcutt’s karate pedigree.

ONE: Enter The Dragon is scheduled for May 17 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang. Current bouts include:

Shinya Aoki (43-8-0, 1NC) vs. Christian Lee (11-3-0)

Sage Northcutt (11-2-0) vs. Cosmo Alexandre (7-1-0)

ONE: World Lightweight Grand Prix Semi-Final: Ariel Sexton (13-4-0, 1NC) vs. Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev (7-1-0)

ONE: World Featherweight Grand Prix Quarterfinal: TBA

More bouts are expected to be announced.
