The UFC confirmed Saturday evening during UFC on ESPN+ 9 that heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (22-1-0, 1NC) will defend his belt against former champion Stipe Miocic (18-3-0) in a rematch Aug. 17 at UFC 241.
The fight began to take a more concrete shape once the retirement status of another former champion, Brock Lesnar, was confirmed by president Dana White.
Cormier relieved Miocic of the belt last July at UFC 226 with a surprising first round TKO. Cormier defended the belt last November against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230, but Miocic has not fought since.
