Watch: Tyson Fury vs. Tom Schwarz press conference

The "Gyspy King" fights for the first time in Vegas this June

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs) held a media press conference with his team to promote his upcoming fight in June with Tom Schwarz (24-0-0, 16 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Flanked by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, Queensberry Promotions figure Frank Warren, and trainer Ben Davison, Fury talked up his German challenger while everyone else talked up building Fury and his profile so that to the casual public “he will be the most famous athlete in the world and that’s our goal.”

The question of Freddie Roach working in Fury’s corner came up but was not answered by Davison.

Fury vs. Schwarz will be available in the U.K. June 15 on BT Sport Box Office pay-per-view and on ESPN+ in the United States.

But many fans are asking one question: “Why is this fight on pay-per-view?”

While Schwarz, 24, is ranked No. 2 by the WBO, his record reveals no particularly impressive victories. He stands 6-5, almost as tall as the 30 year old Fury’s 6-9, and his 16 KOs should pose a danger, at least on paper. But many critics are viewing this fight as a tune up and an extra  cash grab for the anticipated rematch with WBC champion Deontay Wilder reportedly set for 2020.

Fury signed a deal with ESPN in February.
