The UFC confirmed on Tuesday that former interim champion and No. 2 Colby Covington (14-1-0) will take on former champion and No. 10 Robbie Lawler (28-13-0, 1NC) at Newark’s UFC on ESPN 5 main event in August.
Covington, 31, is currently riding a six fight win streak but hasn’t fought since June 2018, where he decisioned Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225. He was supposed to unify the belt with then champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 228 in October, but had to pull out with nose surgery complications and was replace by Darren Till.

Meanwhile, Lawler, 37, is still smarting a controversial loss to upstart Ben Askren at UFC 235 in March, part of a current two fight losing skid with three losses in his past four fights.
UFC on ESPN 5 is scheduled for August 3 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Current bouts include:
