There has been some talk between Covington and Lawler, mostly by Covington, of course. Both trained at American Top Team, but Lawler left for Hard Knocks 365. There was some drama over that.
Now that the fighters have made weight, it’s time to settle everything in the octagon.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
MAIN CARD (3PMET/12PM PT)
DARKO STOSIC (13-1-0) VS. KENNEDY NZECHUKWU (6-2-0)
Andrews: Kennedy towers over Darko but is still learning the octagon game. Stosic will likely try to get the fight to the ground, but I think this time Keenedy floors him first.
Andrews Prediction: Kennedy Nzechukwu via TKO
SCOTT HOLTZMAN (12-3-0) VS. DONG HYUN MA (16-9-3)
Andrews: Ma tends to live and die by the power sword. Holtzman isn’t as exciting, but tends to grind out more wins and I expect him to do the same here.
Andrews Prediction: Scott Holtzman via UD
GERALD MEERSCHAERT (28-11-0) VS. TREVIN GILES (11-1-0)
Andrews: Both guys like to finish fights, particularly Gerald with the tap. Giles only loss has been via tap, but I think he gets there first by flooring Gerald.
Andrews Prediction: Trevin Giles via TKO
JOAQUIM SILVA (11-1-0) VS. NASRAT HAQPASRAT (12-2-0)
Andrews: Nasrat is a good up and comer, but I think the experience of Silva gets him through after three rounds.
Andrews Prediction: Joaquim Silva via UD
CLAY GUIDA (35-18-0) VS. JIM MILLER (30-13-0)
Andrews: Guida’s energy should dictate the pace and as long as Miller cannot get the fight to the ground, he should get the decision.
Andrews Prediction: Clay Guida via UD
#2 COLBY COVINGTON (14-1-0) VS. ROBBIE LAWLER (28-13-0)
Andrews: Lawler can win this with one good shot, but the problem is that Covington is pretty good about avoiding those. Covington will do just enough to grind out the decision.
Andrews Prediction: Colby Covington via UD
