UFC on ESPN+ 27: Benavidez vs. Figueiredo predictions

Once again, the UFC flyweight title is within the grasp of veteran Joseph Benavidez.

The two previous attempts to break through were denied by inaugural champion Demetrious Johnson. But now, finally, in 2020, he has a third chance, but it won’t be easy as No.3 Deiveson Figueiredo will be looking to play spoiler in Norfolk, Virginia.

Note: Figueiredo did not make weight and is ineligible to win the belt if he wins the fight.

Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.

MAIN CARD (8PM ET/5PM PT)

GRANT DAWSON (14-1-0) VS. DARRICK MINER (24-10-0)

UFC on ESPN+ 27

Andrews: Dawson did not make weight. Miner is making his octagon debut and has 21 taps in his 24 victories. Dawson will obviously want to be careful and keep the fight standing and use his experience to grind out the win.

Andrews Prediction: Grant Dawson via UD

MEGAN ANDERSON (9-4-0) VS. NORMA DUMONT (4-0-0)

UFC on ESPN+ 27

Andrews: Anderson is suspectible to the submission, which Dumont will be looking for. But her height and reach advantages should help give her the edge in striking. Megan knows if she keeps the fight standing, she wins.

Andrews Prediction: Megan Anderson via UD

ION CUTELABA (14-4-0, 1NC) VS. MAGOMED ANKALAEV (11-1-0)

UFC on ESPN+ 27

Andrews: A fairly even matchup. Cutelaba is the veteran, but I think Ankalaev will get him with the grappling if he doesn’t knock him out.

Andrews Prediction: Magomed Ankalaev via UD

FELICIA SPENCER (7-1-0) VS. ZARAH FAIRN (6-2-0)

UFC on ESPN+ 27

Andrews: Spencer should be able to get the tap after some initial resistance from Fairn.

Andrews Prediction: Felicia Spencer via submission

MAIN EVENT

JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ (27-5-0) VS. #3 DEIVESON FIGUEIREDO (16-1-0)

UFC on ESPN+ 27

Andrews: How does Deiveson miss weight for the biggest title fight of your life? Benavidez will break hm down with the wrestling, then get the tap.

Andrews Prediction: Joseph Benavidez via submission
