Jon Jones booked for aggravated DWI during traffic stop

Jon Jones is in hot water again with the law.

According to a report from KOAT Action News 7, the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion was pulled over early Thursday morning around 1 a.m. near the intersection of 3rd Street and Central Avenue  in Albuquerque and charged with four counts of suspicion of aggravated DWI, possession of open container, negligent use of firearms, and no proof of insurance in a vehicle.

The report also alleges that a black handgun was found by officers under the driver’s seat and a half-empty bottle of Recuerdo 750ml behind the passenger seat.

An arrest report obtained by MMA Junkie, said that the two officers who responded to the scene, Jason Brown and Brian Johnson, observed that Jones had “had green leafy substance on his shirt and pants, consistent with marijuana” and “an odour of alcohol coming from his facial area.”

“Jonathan did field sobriety tests and performed poorly on all three of them,” Johnson wrote. “He also performed poorly on two out of three alternative tests. He was searched and arrested.”

In New Mexico, a blood alcohol breathalyzer test of at least twice the legal limit, or 0.16 per cent or higher, is cause for an aggravated DWI charge.

Jones, 32, who was on probation previously for an incident at a strip club which ended Jan. 8, was booked and released with a bond arraignment date of April 8.

“UFC is aware of the situation regarding Jon Jones in Albuquerque early this morning,” a UFC statement to ESPN read. “The organization has been in contact with Jones’ management team and is currently gathering additional information.”
