It’s official. UFC 249 will feature lightweights Tony Ferguson (25-3-0) and Justin Gaethje (21-2-0) for the interim lightweight title.

Days after lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0-0) confirmed that he was stuck in Russia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in the country, the UFC confirmed today that the No.4 Gaethje will step in for the undisputed champion.

The move reaffirms the probability that UFC 249 will happen, although the new location has not been revealed as of yet by president Dana White.

The 31-year-old “Highlight” comes into the fight with a three fight win streak, including finishing Donald Cerrone in his last contest at UFC on ESPN+ 16 in Vancouver.
