In November 2002, a bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz and former superfight champion Ken Shamrock was front page news.
The intense rivalry between Ortiz and Shamrock’s Lion’s Den camp finally pushed these two into the octagon at UFC 40. It was up to Shamrock to defend the honour of the Lion’s Den from Ortiz who had beaten several of his fighters.
It was the first of three fights between the two. Check out the first battle below.
Shamock revealed after the contest that he fought Ortiz with a torn ACL. Unfortunately for Shamrock, this was the most competitive fight of the three contests. They did eventually squash their beef, but no one can deny that both of these UFC Hall-of-Famers thrilled the fans with their willingness to put it all on the line.
