UFC on ESPN 8: Overeem vs. Harris predictions

Emotional return for Harris to MMA

The UFC weigh-ins are now complete for tomorrow’s UFC on ESPN 8 event in Jacksonville.

One fighter, Mike Davis was pulled for a medical issue not related to COVID-19. His opponent Giga Chikadze, will instead fight Titan FC bantamweight champion Irvin Rivera.

Also, Urijah Faber and Marvin Vettori weighed in as replacement fighters in case there are any other emergencies.

Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.

MAIN CARD (9PM ET/6PM PT)

#14 SONG YADONG (15-4-1, 1NC) VS. #15 MARLON VERA

UFC on ESPN 8

Andrews: I like Yadong a lot. He’s unbeaten in eight bouts, and was one illegal knee short of winning his last bout. Vera is good, but Yadong is better, assuming his visa issues do not bother him and he can keep the fight standing.

Andrews Prediction: Song Yadong via TKO

ERYK ANDERS (13-4-0) VS. KRZYSZTOF JOTKO (21-4-0)

UFC on ESPN 8

Andrews: Tough matchup. Both can strike, Jotko is better on the ground. So I can see Jotko wearing down Anders after a takedown, or Anders piling up some points with some good hard strikes. I like the power and aggressiveness of Anders to be the decisive factor.

Andrews Prediction: Eryk Anders via UD

#15 DAN IGE (13-2-0) VS. EDSON BARBOZA (20-8-0)

UFC on ESPN 8

Andrews: Barboza needs a win badly. He’s lost four of his last five, and at 34 years old, is in the twilight of his career. He’s dropped down to 145 pounds for this bout, which should help. But I think Ige keep the pressure on and take it to the ground if necessary.

Andrews Prediction: Dan Ige via UD

#6 CLAUDIA GADELHA (17-4-0) VS. ANGELA HILL (12-7-0)

UFC on ESPN 8

Andrews: Hill is on a roll with three straight wins bit is facing a tough former title contender who is perhaps on her way down. Gadelha is a good striker, but her plan must be taking Hill to the ground, which is her best chance to win. So, can Hill keep upright enough? I think she can and gets the upset.

Andrews Prediction: Angela Hill via UD

MAIN EVENT

#8 ALISTAIR OVEREEM (45-18-0, 1NC) VS. #9 WALT HARRIS (13-7-0, 1NC)

UFC on ESPN 8

Andrews: Harris is on a roll and recently dealt with the murder of his daughter. So he is motivated to win, but the fight is still Overeem’s to lose. If Alistair can avoid the big shot and play his game, the Demolition Man should get the win.

Andrews Prediction: Alistair Overeem via TKO

Enjoy the fights.
