Khabib Nurmagomedov: My father is in “bad condition” due to COVID-19
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0-0) took to Instagram to update his father’s condition and it was not a good one.
Speaking in a video, Nurmagomedov said that his family has felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, thanked supporters and warned locals to stay home.
“More than 20 of my close relatives have suffered (from) COVID-19 and also had to stay in intensive care,” Nurmagomedov explained in a translation to MMAJunkie. “Some of them are not with us anymore. As for my father, there’s been so much support, and people kept asking about my father.
“My father is still at the hospital. He’s still going through this disease. He also had a heart complication due to COVID-19. Abdulmanap had surgery for his heart last year and also had the second one these days [sic], so he is still in bad condition. That’s all I can say.
“I want to thank all the people for your support, wishes and your prayers. I also wish all the best. Be safe and healthy. Thank you very much.”
Khabib’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov recently recovered from a medically induced coma after undergoing heart surgery to treat complications from pneumonia. Khabib revealed that it was all related to COVID-19.
Nurmagomedov is expected to unify the lightweight belt sometime in September with interim champion Justin Gaethje, who defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 last week.

But Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s deteriorated situation could delay the bout.
Russia is still dealing with the adverse effects of COVID-19. A travel ban and other protocols are still in effect to combat the high spread of the virus in the country. Approximately 290,678 cases have been reported – exceeded only by the United States – resulting in approximately 2700 deaths.
