Necessity is often the mother of invention. UFC president Dana White’s “Fight Island” is no different.
Initially presented hastily as a simple staging area to hold fights during the COVID-19 pandemic, the concept has taken on a personality of its own with the mysterious lack of information.
White continues to be tight-lipped, but he did let slip some details in recent interviews, including one with partner ESPN.
Fight cards on the island will be soon be disclosed with the possibility of three of four cards hosted there in a month. “Right now we’re looking at June, and we’re literally gonna knock out three or four (cards) there in a month,” he said. “And I’m gonna stay on the island for a month. I’ll probably be there the whole month of July.”
The idea of White living on “Fight Island” with nothing but some face masks, a flashlight and his wits living off the land could be a reality ratings smash for the company.
It’s simple. It’s clean. And it’s probably never been more real than: Dana White on Fight Island.
Let’s see what happens.
