UFC 252: Dana White confirms Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier 3, plus 3 more ‘Fight Island’ cards

UFC president Dana White confirmed a lot of information today on ESPN, including ‘Fight Island.’

UFC 252 is set for Aug. 15, but an official location has not been named yet.

But White confirmed on ESPN’s First Take program that heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (19-3-0) will defend the belt against former champ No.1 Daniel Cormier (22-2-0, 1NC) in a rubber match. the bout on ESPN’s First Take program, as well as the company’s four ‘Fight Island’ cards slated for Yas Island on Abu Dhabi on July 11 (UFC 251), July 15, July 18, and July 25.

“We came up with the idea of having fights on ‘Fight Island’ because we needed a destination to hold international events during the global pandemic,” White said in a statement.

“Abu Dhabi has been an amazing location to hold fights over the past 10 years and it is the perfect place for these events. The infrastructure we are building will be such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the fighters that’s never been done before — from the arena, the private training facility, and the Octagon on the island.

“It’s going to be an experience that none of us will ever forget. I can’t wait to deliver amazing fights from Yas Island.”

UFC 251 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi July 11 will feature:

Kamaru Usman (16-1-0) vs. Gilbert Burns (19-3-0)

Alexander Volkanovski (21-1-0) vs. Max Holloway (21-5-0)

Petr Yan (14-1-0) vs. Jose Aldo (28-6-0)

Jessica Andrade (20-7-0) vs. Rose Namajunas (8-4-0)

Amanda Ribas (9-1-0) vs. Paige Van Zant (8-4-0)

Shamil Abdurakhimov (20-5-0) vs. Ciryl Gane (6-0-0)

Miocic regained the title from Cormier at UFC 241 last August.

COVID-19 in part delayed the trilogy bout as Miocic, a firefighter, served as an emergency paramedic in his home state of Ohio.

The decision angered White, who thought the division was stalled as a result.

‘UFC 252’ is scheduled for Aug. 15 at a location to be determined.

Current bouts include:

Stipe Miocic (19-3-0) vs. Daniel Cormier (22-2-0)

Livia Renata Souza (13-2-0) vs. Ashley Yoder (7-5-0)

More bouts are expected to be announced.
