The UFC is in Las Vegas this week as heavyweights No.3 Curtis Blaydes and No. 7 Alexander Volkov step into the main event spotlight.
Both heavyweights made weight and have an excellent chance to leapfrog into the title shot picture with an impressive victory.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
MAIN CARD (9PM ET/6PM PT)
JIM MILLER (31-14-0, 1NC) VS. ROOSEVELT ROBERTS (10-1-0)
Andrews: Miller is still a competitive veteran but I think Roberts is on the rise and should be able to get the decision if he can’t get the tap.
Andrews Prediction: Roosevelt Roberts via UD
LYMAN GOOD (21-5-0, 1NC) vs. BELAL MUHAMMAD (16-3-0)
Andrews: I can see Muhammad grinding out a decision or Good outstripping Muhammad. Have to go with Muhammad.
Andrews Prediction: Belal Muhammad via UD
RAQUEL PENNINGTON (10-8-0) VS. MARION RENEAU (9-5-1)
Andrews: Pennington, 31, has lost three of her last four fights but against top notch competition. The 42 year old Reneau has lost her past two fights but stylistically is a tough matchup because of her kicks and striking. Irhink Reneau plays enough keep-away to keep Pennington from taking the fight to the ground.
Andrews Prediction: Marion Reneau via UD
SHANE BURGOS (13-1-0) VS. JOSH EMMETT (15-2-0)
Andrews: Tough matchup. Both guys guys have good striking, Emmett has a slight power edge. But I think Burgos is slightly more versatile and if the fight goes to the ground, he has the advantage there.
Andrews Prediction: Shane Burgos via submission
CURTIS BLAYDES (13-2-0) VS. ALEXANDER VOLKOV (31-7-0)
Andrews: Blaydes could pull a Derrick Lewis and use his power to put Volkov away early. But does he have the stamina to go five rounds if the bout comes down to grappling. I don’t know. Volkov has proven he can go the distance and he has deceptive power with the height and reach to go with it. I am going with Blaydes to find a way to land the power shot.
Andrews Prediction: Curtis Blaydes via TKO
