COVID-19 has once again struck Fight Island.
Several reports point to welterweight main event title challenger Gilbert Burns (18-3-0) pulling out of his fight with champion Kamaru Usman (16-1-0) a positive test for COVID-19. Burns did not directly confirm the situation, but alluded to it in a Twitter post.
💔 devastating news, not feeling well but I’m going to win this battle! Stay safe out there! Much love 🙏🏾

The UFC has not yet officially commented on the situation.
Burns made the trip from Florida to Las Vegas train for UFC 251. The UFC uses Vegas as a hub to test scheduled fighters for COVID-19 before flying them to Abu Dhabi for the event.
Burns, his brother Herbert and his cornerman coach Greg Jones all tested positive. Burns’ teammate Aung La Nsang, also recently tested positive.
The news comes on the heels of Marina Rodriguez, Carla Esparza and Anderson dos Santos also being removed from their July 15 Fight Island event after positive COVID-19 tests.
