UFC releases Russian lightweight fighter Roman Bogatov

Illegal strikes during debut bout prompts UFC to seek termination of contract

Russian lightweight Roman Bogatov (10-1-0) has been issued his walking papers from the UFC after just one fight.

No official reason was given by the UFC but Bogatov, 29, debuted at UFC 251 Fight Island against Leonardo Santos, losing a unanimous decision. He was deducted two points for landed two low blows, plus an illegal knee to his downed opponent.

Russian news agency Tass first reported the release.

Bogatov now joins Ray Borg, who was also recently released from the company for repeatedly missing weight.
