Screen Media acquires American rights to ‘Cagefighter,’ announces October release
Screen Media, a subsidiary of the Soul Entertainment (Nasdaq: CSSE) company, is rolling out its latest acquisition, the mixed martial arts film Cagefighter, in the Fall.
The announcement was made today. Screen Media is a subsidiary of the Soul Entertainment (Nasdq: CSSE) company.
Cagefighter, directed and written by Jesse Quinones, stars fighter Alex Montagnani, UFC Hall of Fame Chuck Liddell, Elijah Baker, former UFC middleweight hchampion Luke Rockhold, pro wrestler Jay Reso, and Georgia Bradner.
The plot revolves around Reiss Gibbons (Alex Montagnani), who is on the cusp of cementing himself as the greatest to ever step inside the cage, when he is faced with an intriguing cross-promotional challenge with pro wrestling super star Randy Stone (AEW Champ Jon Moxley).
“We are excited to be working with Screen Media on the release of our film,” Shayne Putzlocher said in a press release. “We know the fans in the U.S. have been waiting to see it and Screen Media is the perfect company to bring it to the masses.”
“Not since Rocky body slammed Thunderlips have a professional fighter and a professional wrestler battled like this! Fans of MMA, wrestling, and these incredibly skilled athletes are going to love the no holds barred action of Cagefighter,” added Screen Media.
The deal was negotiated by Seth Needle, senior vice President of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions, for Screen Media with Jason Moring of Double Dutch International on behalf of the filmmakers.
The company has also recently acquired the movies Blackbird starring Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, and Mia Waikowska, which is set for theatres in September, and The Outpost, which released on July 4 and is based on Jake Tupper’s book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor.
Willy’s Wonderland, starring Nicholas Cage, is also in post-production.
