Reinier De Ridder of Holland backed up his words at ONE: Inside the Matrix Friday night in Singapore.
De Ridder choked out Burmese challenger Aung La N Sang with a rear-naked choke in the first round to capture the ONE middleweight belt in the shocking main event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
With the win, De Ridder remained unbeaten in 13 contests, while La N Sang dropped to 26-11-0.
Taking advantage of a La N Sang missed uppercut, De Ridder too the fight to the ground, locked in a body triangle and ironically cinched in the rear-naked choke on “The Burmese Python.”
In the co-main event, lightweight champion Christian Lee (14-3-0) secured a quick TKO victory over previously undefeated challenger Lapicus Moldova (14-1-0). The match took just 139 seconds.
Strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan (15-2-0) retained her belt with a unanimous decision win over Singapore’s Tiffany Teo (9-2-0) using sharp boxing combinations to overcome the kicks and knees of Teo.
In the final title bout of the evening, Vietnamese-American challenger Thanh Le came through with a spectacular knockout to dethrone Martin Nguyen and win the featherweight crown. It was a third-round inside hook. Further strikes forced the stoppage at 2:19 and cemented the second title change at the event.
