ONE Championship featherweight Sage Northcutt (11-3-0) is looking to to return in 2021 with a bang.
Northcutt, 24, was sidelined for an extended period after his ONE Championship debut loss to Cosmo Alexandre in May 2019. Northcutt required surgery to fix eight facial fractures and after a return to health, decided to move down to featherweight (155 pounds in ONE Championship), closer to his natural weight.
“That’s definitely still the plan,” Northcutt confirmed on TKO Countdown. “I’m training hard for it. So I’m excited to come back. I have so much fire in my stomach to come back and better then ever. Obviously, my last performance wasn’t what I wanted.
“The greatest champions, the greatest fighters out there, almost every one of them have gone through something that’s a major loss, or they’ve been knocked out or submitted or it’s happened in the first ten seconds,” Northcutt explained. “That’s only one fight and I’m going be back better.”
Northcutt recently returned from Singapore from filming the company’s reality show The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition, which is scheduled for release on Netflix in 2021.
The reality show experience prompted Northcutt to further consider the possibilities of movies and acting.
“Oh yeah, definitely. I could see myself doing … What I would like to do is action movies, or shows like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D or D.C. movies like Superman… I could definitely see myself doing that kind of stuff, for sure. I also have the athletic ability so I can do all the stunts too. I’m friends with a bunch of people who do stunts for movies. I grew up doing the same similar kind of stuff. So, I could see myself doing that in the future, it would be a lot of fun.”
During the interview, Northcutt also expressed excitement about the company’s intentions to feature his older sister Colbey as the face of the women’s flyweight division, which is currently under construction.
