Bellator announces 8-man light heavyweight world grand prix tournament scheduled for April

'Rumble' vs. 'Soldier of God' quarterfinal bout included

Bellator announced today their light heavyweight world grand prix tournament will be in April and will feature several intriguing matchups.

Included in the tournament is a quarterfinal bout between former UFC stars Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson and Yoel ‘Soldier of God’ Romero, a fight many fans have been clamoring for. Johnson (22-6-0), 36, is a former UFC light heavyweight title contender, while Romero (13-5-0), 43, contended for the UFC middleweight title before being released and picked up by Bellator.

Lyoto Machida (26-10-0), 42, who won the UFC light heavyweight title in 2009 and finished Ryan Bader (27-6-0, 1NC), 37, in their first encounter nine years ago in 2012 at UFC on FOX 4, will meet again in the quarterfinals. Bader has gone on to win the light heavyweight in June 2017 and heavyweight title in January 2019, losing the light heavyweight strap to current champion Vadim Nemkov.

Speaking of Nemkov (12-2-0), 28, he will put his title on the line in his quarterfinal bout against former UFC fighter and former Bellator light heavyweight champion Phil Davis (22-5-0), 36.

Finally Corey Anderson (14-5-0), 31, who joined Bellator in 2020, will welcome newcomer Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov (18-5-1), 31, who is coming in from the Ukraine and the ACA and ACB promotions.

All matches are scheduled to air on Showtime.
