Asian MMA promotion ONE Championship is teaming up with American MMA organization Ringside Unified Fighting (RUF Nation) for a heavyweight tournament in March.
Dubbed the “Road to ONE,” the tournament will feature 16 fighters who will square off beginning on March 13 at the RUF 39 event.
The winner will receive a $100,000+ USD contract to compete in ONE Championship.
“One of our most important goals at ONE Championship has been to give athletes the biggest global platform to showcase their skills,” ONE Vice President Rich Franklin said in a press release. “We’re more than excited for this tournament to commence, and to discover the world’s next heavyweight superstar.”
“I’m ecstatic for the opportunity ONE Championship has given us at RUF Nation to partner on a ‘Road To ONE’ tournament,” RUF Nation president Dr. Joel Lopez added. “RUF is poised with the ideal stage for recruitment, and the response from applicants has been overwhelming so far. I believe this tournament will produce some of the best undiscovered talent in the U.S. to add to ONE’s roster.”
ONE initially announced RUF 39 would air on B/R Live but then later clarified that the event will instead be live streamed on RUF’s website at www.rufmma.net. The actual bouts will be confirmed and announced closer to the event.
RUF Nation will also host similar tournaments in different weight classes later this year with for $100,000+ USD ONE contracts.
