Bellator 257: Vadim Nemkov outworks Phil Davis to advance in light heavyweight tourney

Vadim Nemkov advanced to the semi-finals of the grand prix with a unanimous decision victory over Phil Davis at Bellator 257.

Nemkov (14-2-0) was also defending his title in the quarterfinal bout of the light heavyweight tourney and he went to work early, scoring striking points and dropping Davis in the second round. In the third round, Davis (22-6-0) tried to pick up the pace, but Nemkov made the adjustment and dictated the pace.

The fourth round was the best round for Davis but surprisingly, he did not use his strength of grappling, particularly when Nemkov appeared to tire.  Nemkov found his second win in the last round, doing just enough in that round to counter the too-little, too-late aggressiveness of Davis.

The judges scored it 48-47, 48-47, and 48-47.

With the win, Nemkov moves on to the semi-finals while the loss snapped the three-fight win streak of Davis and eliminated him from the tournament. Nemkov will face the winner of the Anthony Johnson vs. Yoel Romero bout.

Corey Anderson and Ryan Bader will meet in the other semi-final bracket.
