Ronaldo Souza, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion and UFC middleweight, is now retired.
“Jacare” made the announcement Tuesday night to Combate.
Souza, 41, (26-10-0), debuted in the UFC in May 2013, and went 9-7-0 in sixteen octagon bouts. While he did win not a title in the UFC, he did defeat Tim Kennedy for the Strikeforce middleweight belt in August 2010. He defended it against Robbie Lawler and lost it to Luke Rockhold in September 2011.
Souza will be remembered for his ground game, which his opponents had great respect for. But recently he lost five of his last six bouts, including an armbar submission to Andre Muniz at UFC 262 in May.
