Bellator 265: Cheick Kongo chokes out Sergei Kharitonov in the nick of time

Cheick Kongo used a dramatic last-second rear-naked choke and emerged the victor in the main event of Bellator 265 in South Dakota.

Kongo (31-11-2) struggled in the first round, forced on the defensive by opponent Sergei Kharitonov (32-9-0) who used strikes in volume.

But in the second round, Kongo landed some punches that hurt Kharitonov, which set up a takedown. With time ticking down, Kongo went for the choke that forced a tap with one second left.

With the win, Kongo, 46, earned his first win since February 2019. He will likely keep his No. 3 ranking.

Kharitonov, 41, has now lost two of his last three contests.
