Fight Week at UFC 266 revealed a big surprise for Robbie Lawler, courtesy of opponent Nick Diaz.
President Dana White confirmed in the post-fight press conference of the Dana White Contenders Series Tuesday night that due to a late request from Diaz (26-9-0) and Lawler (28-15-0) agreeing, the fight has been changed to 185 pounds, from 170 pounds.
“We had a short conversation,” Lawler told reporters at UFC 266 media day. “It is what it is. I’m ready to fight … I’m ready to go. That’s all that matters. Camp went well, and controlling the things I can control.”
Diaz, 38, has not fought since losing a decision to Anderson Silva at UFC 183 that was later overturned to a no-contest.
Lawler, 39, is a former welterweight champion looking to shake off a four fight losing streak at UFC 266. It seems both fighters are raring to fight even though Diaz may have the weight advantage at 185.
UFC 266 is scheduled for Sept. 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Scheduled bouts are:
