UFC president Dana White was sitting pretty at the UFC 268 post-fight press conference for at least 100,000 reasons – and probably many more.
White revealed during the press conference that he placed a $100K USD bet on boxer Canelo Alvarez to knock out IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant at Saturday night’s undisputed title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
And needless to say, Dana’s bet came up roses. Alvarez scored an 11th round TKO victory over Plant to become the undisputed super middleweight champion.
“I like Canelo. I watched the fight. I bet on Canelo,” White grinned to reporters. “That’s why I watched the fight. I bet $100,000 on it, to win by knockout.”
It’s no secret to fans that White is a big boxing fan. Some time ago, he tried to establish Zuffa Boxing but no mention has been made of its progress as of December 2020, when he said he was putting it on the shelf.
White also torpedoed welterweight champion Kamaru Usman’s wish to box Alvarez.
“He don’t want to fight Canelo,” White said to reporters. “Come on, man. Let’s stop this sh*t. If Canelo wants to come over here, awesome fight. Those two put on an incredible performance.”
