ONE: Winter Warriors: Regian Eersel edges Islam Murtazaev to retain lightweight kickboxing title

Regian Eersel used an active third round to remain undefeated and secure a split-decision victory over challenger Islam Murtazaev at ONE: Winter Warriors in Singapore.

Murtazaev came out aggressive, forcing Eersel to pick his spots to counter, but then picked up the pace after the third round, which fatigued Murtazaev.

With the win, Eersel is now unbeaten in 18 straight contests, including all six bouts in the ONE cage.

In the co-main event, former Muay Thai, kickboxing champion and No. 2 atomweight Stamp Fairtex (8-1-0) continued her return to form with a second round submission of No. 4 Ritu Phogat (7-2-0) to win the women’s atomweight world grand prix world tournament title.

Phogat tried to take the fight to the ground early, but Fairtex used exceptional takedown defence. In the second round, Phogat landed a takedown but Fairtex countered with a triangle choke, moving to an armbar which forced referee Justin Brown to halt the contest at 2:14.

Fairtex has now earned the title shot at current atomweight champion Angela Lee, who took some time off to deliver the birth of her child. Fairtex holds Lee in high regard, but will undoubtedly prepare herself to the extreme for their title bout in 2022.
