Former UFC strawweight title contender Claudia Gadelha retires from mixed martial arts

"That's it for me."

Claudia Gadelha, the Brazilian strawweight who once challenged Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the title, has retired from MMA.

Gadleha (18-5-0), 33, took to her Instagram page to detail in an eloquent post her thinking process behind the move to step away.

Post-concussion syndrome was one of the key factors that forced Gadelha take some time  in 2020 to re-evaluate her career. In the meantime, the UFC offered her a position to help up-and-coming talent, which she decided to take. Her decision was made months ago, but she believes it was the right one to make.

Many fans will remember Gadelha’s time as a coach on the The Ultimate Fighter 23 and her rivalry with Jedrzejczyk on the show. She lost two narrow decisions to Joanna in her career.

Gadelha leaves the sport having never been finished or submitted in 23 professional contests.
