The showdown between UFC lightweight contenders Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev is set for February 2022.
The UFC confirmed the matchup earlier today.
The No. 3 Dariush (21-4-1), 32, is the winner of seven straight bouts, including a convincing decision over former interim champion Tony Ferguson. He is approaching eight years in the octagon and has never been this close to a title shot.
In his way is Makhachev (21-1-0), 30, the protege of Khabib Nurmagomedov and the winner of nine straight, who dismantled Dan Hooker at UFC 267 in October. He hasn’t lost since October 2015 and is considered by many to be the “boogeyman” of the division.
The winner remains in the lightweight title shot conversation.
