According to a press release from director Mark Bochsler, Surviving Bokator is expected to return to the Kingdom sometime in 2022, although the exact timeframe is to be determined.
In addition, the Cambodian martial art of Bokator is being considered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for intangible cultural heritage status. The timeframe for UNESCO’s decision is also currently unconfirmed, but the hope is for this year. The screening of Surviving Bokator may be affected by the UNESCO’s decision, as well as the global COVID-19 Omicron variant.
In the meantime, Surviving Bokator has racked up a number of awards at various film festivals, most recently picking up the Best Sport Documentary Award at the BKK DOC (Bangkok) International Documentary Awards in Thailand last December.
