The UFC returns to the Apex with a featherweight main event contest between Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze.
The No. 11 ranked Chikadze has an opportunity to leapfrog into the No. 5 spot, currently occupied by Kattar.
Kenai Andrews checks in with his thoughts on the main card.
MAIN CARD (7PM ET/4PM PT)
BILL ALGEO (14-6-0) VS. JOANDERSON BRITO (12-2-1)
Andrews: Brito is making his octagon debut. The advantage is Algeo’s, but Brito looks to be a finisher on the floor or on the feet. The experience of Algeo should see him through.
Andrews Prediction: Bill Algeo via UD
DAKOTA BUSH (8-3-0) VS. VLACHESLAV BORSHCHEV (5-1-0)
Andrews: Borschev is making his debut. Bush has a single fight in the UFC and lost it. I have to go with the rookie who looks to finish guys. Keep the fight standing and avoid the ground game of Bush and he should be on his way.
Andrews Prediction: Vlacheslav Borschev via UD
KATLYN CHOOKAGIAN (16-4-0) VS. JENNIFER MAIA (19-7-1)
Andrews: Maia lost to Chookagian in 2019 so I expect Chookagian to use her striking to keep things standing once again.
Andrews Prediction: Katlyn Chookagian via UD
BRANDON ROYVAL (12-6-0) VS. ROGER BONTORIN (17-3-0)
Andrews: Royval needs a win here. He can do it but it won’t be easy against Bontorin. Have to go with Roger to drag the fight to the ground for the tap.
Andrews Prediction: Roger Bontorin via submission
JAKE COLLIER (12-6-0) VS. CHASE SHERMAN (15-8-0)
Andrews: Both guys need a win. Have to go with Collier here he seemed ready to go at the weigh-ins.
Andrews Prediction: Jake Collier via TKO
#5 CALVIN KATTAR (22-5-0) VS. #8 GIGA CHIKADZE (14-2-0)
— UFC (@ufc) January 14, 2022
Andrews: Kattar will be Chikadze’s toughest opponent yet but I think he should be able to outstrike him until his cardio runs out. By then, he should have enough points to pull out the decision.
Andrews Prediction: Giga Chikadze via UD
Enjoy the fights.
