Stop playing: Nate Diaz authorizes UFC to put together Dustin Poirier fight

Nate Diaz says he’s ready to fight Dustin Poirier.

The two lightweights have been going back and forth on Twitter before Diaz’s permissive tweet. But can UFC president Dana White make this grudge match happen?

Poirier (28-7-0, 1NC), 33, is coming off a disappointing submission loss to lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 269. However before that, he defeated rival Conor McGregor twice last year. He did tweet a cryptic response that many believe is towards Diaz.

Poirier was initially supposed to fight Diaz at UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden in November 2018, but had to pull out with a hip injury. He has taken to Twitter to dismiss other fight rumours, it’s clear that his mind remains on Diaz.

Meanwhile, Diaz (20-13-0), 36, lost a decision to Leon Edwards in his last bout at UFC 263 in June 2021. Despite having lost three of his last four bouts, he remains in high regard and demand by other fighters such as Poirier.

As Dana White likes to say, we’ll have to see how this plays out. The fight has not been confirmed by the UFC or either fighter.

Let’s see what happens.
