Jorge Masvidal is now out on a $15,000 USD bond after being held behind bars Wednesday night, less than 48 hours after an alleged incident with former teammate Colby Covington in Miami.
WPLG Local 10 News first reported an incident about 48 hours ago where Covington allegedly suffered a fractured tooth and material damage to his Rolex watch after being punched in the mouth and eye by Masvidal, outside of the Papi Steak restaurant in Miami Beach. Local police were investigating the incident with Masvidal as the primary suspect.
Covington was originally identified by police as the victim in this incident
On Wednesday night, WPLG Local 10 News reported that Masvidal surrendered to police, with video of him in handcuffs running into the police station. He was charged with aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm and criminal mischief. He is now being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami on $15,000 USD bond.
Masvidal is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison plus a $10,000 USD fine for the aggravated battery charge, plus additional sentencing for the criminal mischief charge.
Masvidal and Covington recently competed at UFC 272 on Mar. 5, with Covington winning a dominant unanimous decision. Afterwards, Covington announced himself as the “King of Miami,” a remark which angered Masvidal. Both fighters indicated they would fight if they encountered each other in Miami.
