UFC 278: Kamaru Usman set to defend welterweight belt against Leon Edwards in Salt Lake City

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will return to the octagon in August at UFC 278.

Usman will face British challenger Leon Edwards in a rematch of their first encounter seven years ago. The title bout was confirmed during the UFC 275 event.

Usman (20-1-0), 35, seems to have recovered from an injured right hand suffered three weeks prior to a previous bout against Colby Covington at UFC 268 last November.

Meanwhile, Edwards (19-3-0, 1NC), is unbeaten in 10 fights (9-0-0, 1NC) since the loss to Usman in 2015. His last fight was the unanimous decision win over Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June 2021.

UFC 278 is scheduled for Aug. 20 at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. Current bouts include:

(C) KAMARU USMAN (20-1-0) VS. #1 LEON EDWARDS (19-3-0, 1NC)

PAULO COSTA (13-2-0) VS. LUKE ROCKHOLD (16-5-0)
