Bantamweight Marlon Vera will take on another former UFC champion in the main event of UFC Fight Night 209 in August.
Vera (19-7-1) , 29, will match up with the division’s former king, Dominick Cruz. But the No. 5 Vera is surging on a three fight win streak that includes a win over former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and a $100,000 Fight of the Night award tally at UFC Vegas 53 when he decisioned Rob Font in April.
Meanwhile, “The Dominator’s” (24-3-1), 36, resume speaks for itself. The former two-time 135-pound champion and current No. 8 fighter is in the midst of another comeback, having won his first two fights since losing the title in May 2020 to Henry Cejudo. His patented footwork and cardio are still formidable but Vera will be his toughest test thus far. However, Cruz will have the city of San Diego in his corner as the hometown hero. And his broadcasting career with the UFC continues to grow.
