On the heels of the Season 2022 Playoffs, the PFL announced today their new European league scheduled to operate in 2023.
PFL Europe will be a standalone European centric league with events staged in European Countries and featuring European fighters, according to a company press release. It will have the same season format of the American PFL league and offer a gateway for fighters to the PFL in the United States.
“I am pleased to announce the PFL will launch PFL Europe in 2023 to further advance the sport of MMA and fuel PFL’s next phase of global expansion starting in Europe, the number one international MMA growth region,” PFL CEO Peter Murray said. “Europe is rich with top fighters who are ready to compete in the PFL’s season format on a major stage and passionate MMA fans throughout the region will now have access to premium events staged in Europe.”
Starting with the Aug. 13 event in Cardiff, Wales and then on Aug. 20 in London, European fighters are scheduled in qualifier bouts on both cards with prospects selected to compete in PFL Europe. This includes British star Dakota Ditcheva, Ireland’s Will Fleury, Italy’s Francesco Nuzzi, and Scotland’s Louie Sutherland.
“It has been an extremely rewarding experience putting together PFL Europe qualifier fights alongside our partners at Live Nation,” added PFL president of fighter operations Ray Sefo. “PFL is about opportunity, and we are proud of the opportunity we are providing fighters across Europe. I can’t wait to get to work on the first season of PFL Europe.”
