PFL 8 2022 Playoffs: Dilano Taylor shocks Rory MacDonald to advance to welterweight finals

Dilano Taylor earned his chance to win $1 million and the PFL welterweight title by dismantling heavy favourite Rory MacDonald Saturday night in Cardiff, Wales.

Taylor (10-2-0), 25, who was a late replacement, used crisp striking to penetrate the defences of MacDonald (23-10-1) to get the quick stoppage at 3:59 of the first frame.

The win sets up the PFL welterweight final between Taylor and Sadibou Sy for the $1 million and the title.

In the other heavyweight semi-final, Ante Delija took out Renan Ferreira on the ground and scored a fast TKO win at 4:31 of the first round.  Delia will now face Matheus Scheffel in the heavyweight final.

“PFL’s U.K. debut in Cardiff showcased the best MMA action in the world, as fighters earned trips to the PFL World Championship and competed for positions in the inaugural PFL Europe Season,” PFL CEO Peter Murray said in a press release. “We now look forward to the continuation of the 2022 PFL Playoffs on August 20 at Copperbox Arena in London.”

“The PFL athletes always rise to the occasion and give MMA fans the best action in the world,” PFL president of fighter operations Ray Sefo added. “Congratulations to the fighters moving on to the 2022 PFL World Championship and to our fighters who earned a spot in the inaugural PFL Europe season. I am looking forward to an exciting PFL Playoff finale next week in London.”

In addition, Nathan Kelly, Radu Maxim, and Will Fleury qualified for the inaugural PFL Europe league.
